"Mum Makes Butterflies"

One of the fast-fingered CCC cutters told me the other day that she overheard her little boy explaining to a friend what it is that she does, with these simple words "Mum makes butterflies."
With the calm acceptance of a child, his pal just nodded, and they went on with their play. However, the friend's Mum was more curious, and wanted to know all about this extraordinary career creating fluttery decorations for cakes and chandeliers, valances and veils!
Every one of the fairies, ladybugs, dragonflies and butterflies really is cut out one at a time, by hand, in painstaking detail by a member of the CCC team of cutters. There are no fancy machines that can come anywhere close to the dexterity and flexibility of human hands for this work. And with an ever-evolving selection of over 150 distinct styles, there could never be a standard template.
Like a classic cottage industry, there are ladies delicately snipping away in craft rooms and lounges around Melbourne, making everyone here at CCC (and their families too) so proud of their work.
In future blog posts, we'll bring you behind-the-scenes stories of what goes into every order, from research and design to photography and packaging. Please be in touch with your questions!
